Downloads   Installing Bugs2000 Obtaining a CD   Posters

Please download BugsCEP rather than Bugs2000, which it supersedes, from the following website: http://www.bugscep.com/downloads.html

The following information will be replaced with the new site in the near future.

Please select the server nearest to you, although this is a somewhat relative thing in Cyberspace...

The files are either:
Winzip self extracting zip files (.exe), or
ZIPPED self extracting zip files (.zip)
(created with Winzip)
you need to unzip (decompress) the latter and then follow the instructions below
.

We realise that this double zipping is a bit awkward, but some systems do not allow the downloading of '.exe' program files due to the virus risk that it carries. Email me if this is confusing.

Bugs2000v5.1 - current release version

Please download BugsCEP rather than Bugs2000, which it supersedes, from the following website: http://www.bugscep.com/downloads.html

Please note that this version is considerably larger than the previous versions due to the greatly increased amount of data. Please make sure you have at least 300Mb of harddisk space free on the installation drive.

For Access2000 users: Download from England (bugs2000.org on Redstation Hosting)

58.2Mb zipped
150~220Mb installed (varies with use)

Runtime version: Download from England (Redstation Hosting)
(Does not need Access)
93.9Mb zipped

This will be the last data update before the release of the new BugsCEP program

Bugs2000v5 - previous version - smaller install

Runtime version: Download from England (Redstation Hosting)
(Does not need Access)
55.11Mb zipped
~110Mb installed (varies)

Installation instructions

Bugs2000v5

All users

The file you downloaded will be called either bugs2000v5.zip or bugs2000runtime.zip. These are both compressed files which need to be decompressed.

Windows XP users:

  • Open the *.zip file by double clicking on it.
  • Copy the contents (*.exe) to a temporary folder (e.g. C:\TEMP or C:\bugsinstaller)
  • proceed to the appropriate installation instructions below...

Non-XP users (Windows 2000, NT, 98):

  • You will need additional software to decompress the *.zip file. We recommend Winzip or JustZIPit
  • Please refer to the instructions that come with these programs for help on unzipping
    - although it is quite intuative, a case of double clicking on the *.zip file, and chosing where you want to save the extracted file.
  • Extract the *.exe file to a temporary folder (e.g. C:\TEMP or C:\bugsinstaller)
  • proceed to the appropriate installation instructions below...

If you have MS Access 2000 installed on your computer (comes with MS Office 2000 Pro/Premium):

  1. Run the bugs2000v5.exe file
Click the "Browse" button and choose a folder in which to decompress the Bugs installation files.
    Click "Unzip"
Winzip will create a "bugs2000v5" folder at this location, and extract the files.
(Note: This double compression is necessary as some internet connections will not download *.exe files due to virus risks)

  2. Locate the bugs2000 directory that was just created (using the Windows Explorer or My Computer).
    Run the setup.exe file.
Setup will do a quick check of your system to see if all the files it need to work are installed - if Setup needs to update any files then it will do so, and prompt you to restart the machine. You will then be returned to the setup routine.

  3. The Welcome screen reminds you to close any programs running, after which you should click OK.

  4. Either accept the default directory (C:\Program Files\bugs2000\) or choose an alternative, and then click on the large install icon in the top left(ish) of the popup window - looks a bit like a computer with a box in front of it... see figure below:

  5. Choose the program group for Bugs on the Windows Start Menu, and then click Continue (Bugs2000v5 is the default).

  6. Setup will copy the Bugs files to your computer, click OK when it has finished, and the following message is displayed:

  7. The "Winzip Self-Extractor - xlsfiles.exe" window will appear - click on the "Unzip" button.
This installs the countsheet files onto your harddrive in the "xlsfiles" subdirectory of the Bugs2000 installation folder.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ACCEPT THE DEFAULT "UNZIP TO FOLDER" SETTINGS!
Otherwise Bugs will not function correctly - reinstall it if problems occur (see section 5. Uninstalling Bugs).

  8. Click Close when Winzip has finished decompressing the files.

  9. Bugs2000 should now be installed on your computer - please read section 3. Running Bugs2000 for the first time
OPTIONAL: If disk space is at a premium you can delete the file xlsfiles.exe from the Bugs2000 folder, as it is not really needed.

If you DO NOT have MS Access 2000 installed on your computer:

  1. Run the bugs2000runtime.exe file
Click the "Browse" button and choose a folder in which to decompress the Bugs installation files.
    Click "Unzip"
Winzip will create a "bugs2000runtime" folder at this location, and extract the files.

  3. Follow the instructions above for installing Bugs with "Access 2000 installed on your computer"

Other versions and CDs

Other versions are available on CD, but support for these is limited - as a small team, there are restrictions as to how many versions we can debug. Note also that the data in these versions is no longer updated.

The available versions are:

Bugs - runs on MS Access 2 (Very stable, but less functions than later versions)

Bugs97 - runs on MS Access 97 (A little unstable, not recommended unless no alternative)

The versions listed for download above are also available on CD on request.

To obtain a CD please contact us, these will be sent out at cost price which is approximately £5 UK, $8 USD, 7 Euros.
